Chris Brown Wanted J. Holiday's Song "Bed" But His Label Felt Different

In the mid-2000s, Chris Brown was quickly becoming one of the biggest stars in R&B, but there was one hit that almost ended up in his catalog: J. Holiday’s "Bed." The song, written by The-Dream, became a major success for J. Holiday, but it was originally considered for Chris Brown. However, due to its risqué lyrics, Brown’s label felt it was not the right fit for the then 18-year-old singer.

In an interview with Real Talk NY, The-Dream explained the situation: “Before me and Chris even had a discussion, we were talking to executives over there, and it was just concerning certain lyrical content of the song, and they wanted to change a lot of it. And I wasn’t going to do that; it would have put in jeopardy the integrity of the song based on trying to get it on an act that was 18 years old.”

Ultimately, the decision was made not to alter the song’s lyrics, and the track found a new home with J. Holiday, who put his own spin on it. The-Dream stood by his vision for the song, preserving its integrity and allowing it to become the hit we know today.
