Teena Marie Recorded "Fire And Desire" While Sick With A Fever of Over 100

Legendary singer Teena Marie delivered one of the most iconic R&B duets of all time—"Fire and Desire"—despite being seriously ill. When Rick James wrote the song, he immediately envisioned it as a duet with Teena. However, when he learned that she was sick with a fever of over 100 degrees, and doctors advised her to take a week or more to recover, he began searching for a replacement singer.

Determined not to miss out on the opportunity, Teena Marie refused to let anyone else take her place. Despite her condition, she arrived at the studio, recorded her entire part in just 40 minutes, and nailed it in a single take. Her dedication and raw talent resulted in a song that would go on to become a timeless classic in R&B history.

"Fire and Desire" remains a powerful showcase of vocal chemistry, passion, and emotion, proving that true artistry knows no limits—even in the face of adversity.
