Following her experience with a $10,000 medical bill for a myomectomy, Khaleelah Harris channeled her struggle into a mission to help others. Partnering with Yasmine Griffiths, she co-founded The Beauty of Our Wellness, a nonprofit organization focused on supporting Black women dealing with fibroids. The duo created a program that provides $500 micro-grants to reduce the financial burden of treatment for women who need assistance.
The duo’s efforts are a testament to the power of grassroots movements in creating meaningful change. “When we launched The Beauty of Our Wellness just seven months ago, our mission was clear: to align with the growing movement for Uterine Fibroids Awareness,” Harris shared. Having dealt with fibroids firsthand—one of her masses grew to a size of 5 x 7 x 7 inches—Harris knows all too well the physical and emotional toll they can take.
In just six months, Harris and Griffiths have successfully raised $10,000 for their Beauty of Our Wellness Fund, which is now open for applications. Through their efforts, Harris and Griffiths are creating a support system for women dealing with fibroids, ensuring that no one has to face the financial strain alone.
